This document explains the types of cookies and other tracking technologies that Shopify can place on your device, either when you visit our Web properties or if you visit the storefront of a merchant who uses our platform to feed his site.

What are cookies?

A cookie is a small amount of information downloaded to your computer or device when you visit certain websites. We use a number of cookies on the Shopify website, including strictly necessary cookies, performance, advertising, social media or content. Cookies enhance your browsing experience by allowing the website to remember your actions and preferences (such as connection and selection of the region). This means that you do not have to re-enter the information each time you return to the site or navigate from one page to another. Cookies also provide information about how people use the Web site, for example, whether it is their first visit or if they visit it frequently. Learn more about cookies (and other similar tracking technologies) and how we use the data collected through these technologies, in our Privacy Policy .

What cookies do we use and why?

Some cookies are necessary to allow you to browse our website, to use its features and to access secure areas. The use of these cookies is essential to the proper functioning of the site. For example, we use user input cookies for the duration of a session to track user input when filling out multi-page forms.

We also use functional cookies to remember the choices you made or the information you provided, such as your user name, language or region where you are. This allows us to tailor the experience of your website specifically to your preferences. For example, authentication cookies are functional cookies used for the duration of a session (or persistent, if you accept the "Remember me" function) to allow users to authenticate during subsequent visits or to access authorized content on multiple pages. The functional cookies we use include:

  • User-centric security cookies to detect authentication abuses for a limited persistent duration, such as repeated unsuccessful login attempts. These cookies are configured for the specific task of increasing the security of the service.

  • The session cookies of the multimedia content player (flash cookies) are used for the duration of a session to store the technical data necessary for the playback of video or audio content (e.g. image quality, network link speed and buffering settings).

  • Load balancing session cookies are used throughout the session to identify the same server in the pool so that the load balancer correctly redirects user requests.

  • Persistent cookies for customizing the user interface are used to record a user's preferences for a service on multiple Web pages.

Shopify is dedicated to the user experience and we use many tools to help us improve our website and our trading platform. To this end, we use reporting and analysis cookies to collect information about how you use our website or the storefronts of our merchants, and how often. These cookies collect information only for statistical purposes and only use identifiers of pseudonymous cookies that do not identify you directly. The performance cookies we use include:

  • Third-Party Analysis Cookies-These cookies allow us to estimate the number of unique visitors, improve our websites and those of our merchants, and detect the most sought-after words in search engines leading to a Web page. These cookies are not used to target you with online marketing. We use these cookies to track the performance of our websites and merchant sites and make relevant improvements to improve your browsing experience.

  • Third Party Analysis Cookies-We also use Google Analytics and other third-party analytics providers listed below to measure user interactions with the content of our website. These cookies "remember" what our users did on the previous pages and how they interacted with the website. For more information about Google Analytics, visit Google News page . For more information about disabling Google Analytics, see below.

Advertising cookies are used on our website to tailor marketing to your interests and to provide you with a more personalized service in the future. These cookies remind you that you have visited our website and we can share this information with third parties, such as advertisers. Although these cookies allow you to track your device's visits to our website and other sites, they generally cannot identify you personally. Without these cookies, the ads you see may be less relevant and less interesting. Learn more about how companies use cookies to deliver targeted or targeted ads, Click here . We do not even configure advertising cookies in the storefronts of our merchants, although they may choose to do so independently.

Finally, many social media plugins (for example, the "I love" button on Facebook) and tools to provide or improve the content of a website (for example, services to read video files or create sections of comments). We integrate these modules into our platform to improve the experience of navigation and interaction with our websites. Please note that some of these third-party services place cookies that are also used for elements such as behavioral advertising, analyses and/or market research.

How long will cookies stay on my computer or mobile device?

The length of time a cookie remains on your computer or mobile device depends on the type of cookie "persistent" or "session". Session cookies last until you stop browsing and persistent cookies until they expire or are deleted. Most of the cookies we use are persistent and will expire between 30 minutes and two years from the date they were downloaded to your device. See the section below on how to control cookies for more information about their deletion before they expire.

How do I control cookies?

You can control and manage cookies in different ways. Remember that deleting or blocking cookies may have a negative impact on your user experience and that parts of our website may no longer be fully accessible.

Most browsers automatically accept cookies, but you can choose whether to accept them or not through your browser controls, which are often found in your browser's "Tools" or "Preferences" menu. For more information about changing your browser settings or blocking, managing, or filtering cookies, Reportez -you in your browser's help file or at sites such as: Www.allaboutcookies.org .

Most of the third-party advertising and tracking services mentioned above offer you the opportunity to unsubscribe from their tracking systems. You can find out more about the information they collect and how to unsubscribe through the links to the privacy policy listed above.
