Dragon Ball Z (ドラゴンボールZ(ゼット), Doragon Bōru Zetto?, common abbreviation DBZ) is a Japanese animated television series adapted from the Dragon Ball franchise by Akira Toriyama and produced by Toei Animation. This series follows the Dragon Ball anime and adapts the last twenty-six volumes of the manga.

The series was originally broadcast on April 26, 1989 on Fuji Television in Japan with a new schedule compared to the previous series, in 291 episodes of 25 minutes, the last one being broadcast on January 31, 19961. A remastered and reassembled version with 167 episodes (159 in VO), entitled Dragon Ball Z Kai, was broadcast from April 5, 2009 to June 28, 2015. The original Dragon Ball Z won the Kyo Award in 2003 and the Jump Award 4 years later.

An alternative sequel, entitled Dragon Ball GT, was broadcast from February 7, 1996 to November 19, 1997.

A direct sequel to the manga (excluding Arc Oob), entitled Dragon Ball Super, aired from July 5, 2015 to March 25, 2018 on Fuji TV. A new feature film was announced on May 9, 2021 with an expected release date of 20222.
